Our Program

Due to the increasingly technical and extremely varied nature of construction craft laborers’ duties, LIUNA has implemented an Apprenticeship program that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. With hardwork and dedication, our apprentices can graduate in as little as 2 years with 300 training hours and 4,000 work hours. Upon graduation, apprentices receive:

Journeyman card

from the local union hall

h

CertificatE of Completion

of Apprenticeship from the USDOL

Full Journeyman Pay

from your employer

why join our program?

By participating in our program, apprentices get ahead of the game by expanding their skillset while getting paid to acquire on-the-job work hours. Our apprentices receive an education from a nationally recognized program that will grant the highest level of skill, compensation, and benefits that our trade has to offer.

“Union Apprentices are paid as they work, they complete their training without incurring any education debt, and graduates can look forward to pay and benefits that will provide a middle class lifestyle.”

Better Pay

On average, graduates of apprenticeship programs earn higher wages than non-union workers or those with an associates degree who are younger than 40. Additionally, our apprentices owe nothing when they graduate from their apprenticeship, whereas the average student loan debt in Michigan was $29,518 in 2014.

In addition, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found that union apprentices earn higher and more frequent pay increases than non-union workers. When completing an apprenticeship program, union apprentice wages increase by 51% on average, whereas non-union wages only increased by 30% on average.

Better Benefits

Unionized Construction Craft Laborers have excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a generous pension plan with an annuity savings plan. As shown in the graph, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that union workers consistently have greater access to employee benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, paid sick leave, and retirement benefits than non-union workers.

Safer and More Skilled Workers

Each course offered at MLTAI provides workers with invaluable knowledge and hands-on abilities that will directly relate to work being done in the field, and our ANSI-certified training staff uses state-of-the-art technology to guarantee the most up-to-date learning possible. We also provide the general safety and health training that union contractors are more likely to offer and require which causes our union workers to exhibit safer work practices than those of non-union contractors.

Equal Opportunity Pledge

LIUNA Training of Michigan will not discriminate against apprenticeship applicants or apprentices based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), sexual orientation, genetic information, or because they are an individual with a disability or a person 40 years old or older. LIUNA Training of Michigan will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, part 30
